Course DescriptionThe course examines a religious building whose traditional functional requirements have been met by contemporary architecture solutions. The project illustrates how a design project using natural materials can produce an esthetically pleasing building that meets the client’s functional needs and at the same time is respectful of the environment. Course material includes an introductory text, many pictures, and technical and construction-detail drawing with legends. On completing the course, you will be able to describe the importance given in this project to the use of vernacular materials, especially wood, and how this enables a contemporary architecture to blend with its environment.

Learning Objectives – after reading the article and studying the drawings, you will be able to:
- Describe how the design project has provided spatial distribution in keeping with the building’s special functions.
- Explain the reasons behind the architects’ choice of materials.
- Explain the way form and color have contributed to the building’s esthetic.
- Analyze how traditional elements have been fused with a contemporary architecture take on a place of worship.
