Course DescriptionThe course presents a new-build in a western neighborhood of London currently undergoing extensive regeneration. Attention is given to the way the architects take context into account and so contribute to creating a quality public area. Course material includes an explanatory text that investigates the reasons behind the architectural design, and a detailed account of the glazed envelope. This is accompanied by photographs, technical and construction-detail drawings illustrating the materials and technologies employed.

Learning Objectives – after reading the article and studying the drawings, you will be able to:
- Analyze the architectural design and how it dialogues with context, with particular focus on the decision to create separate volumes consistent with public circulation routes.
- Explain the stylistic and esthetic reasons underpinning the choice of color palette, glass and volume composition.
- Describe how the complex blends with its environment and the reasons behind the different envelope façades and finishes as a function of orientation.
- Analyze the way the architecture contributes to the creation of publicly accessible areas.
