The course looks at an iconic contemporary architecture wedged into a medieval urban fabric of an historic European city. Focus is given to the way in which design and the appropriate choice of high-performance materials can generate a landmark building that both meets the designated functions and blends into its setting. Course material includes an introductory text, many photographs of the worksite and scale models, 3D modeling and technical drawings. On completing the course, you will be able to explain the importance of employing vernacular materials, especially wood, in an historic setting.
