Course Description
The course investigates contemporary Mexican architecture, providing an initial general overview of the architectural scene and then a more detailed look at some major practices and their work, both built and under construction. Particular focus is given to experimental and avant-garde expression, a major feature of contemporary Mexican architecture Course material includes an explanatory article, pictures and several in scale drawings. On completing the course, you will be able to identify the key features of recent contemporary Mexican architecture.

Learning Objectives – after reading the article and studying the drawings, you will be able to:

  1. Analyze the cultural climate in which the latest generation of Mexican architects work.
  2. Describe the professional development of several architects and key drivers underpinning their projects.
  3. Identify the forward-looking elements of the projects illustrated or those that evoke Mexico’s architectural heritage.
  4. Identify the differences between the new generation of Mexican architects and their North American or European peers.
