Course DescriptionThe course presents an overview of architecture in Italy realized by the younger generation of 30 and 40 year olds. Particular focus is given to the Italian cultural scene and the influence of European and international developments in an era of globalization. The projects - illustrated with the aid of an introductory text, pictures and construction drawings - identify a number of key trends in the contemporary Italian architecture being developed by young architects.
Learning Objectives – after reading the article and studying the drawings, you will be able to:
- Analyze the relationship between contemporary Italian architecture and the country’s political and cultural context.
- Describe the developments of Italian architecture since 2001 as expressed by the latest generation of architects.
- Identify the mindset and trends prevalent among young Italian architects in recent years.
- Recognize the extent to which young Italian architects feel part of an international contemporary architecture scene and/or reference their architectural heritage.
