Course DescriptionThe course provides information on a significant contemporary architecture that aims to embody the essence of modern living: a detached residence located on the hills surrounding the Austrian city of Linz. Explanatory texts, pictures, technical drawings, a construction-detail drawing with accompanying legend all contribute to give the course attendee an in-depth description of the overall project, and the technologies and materials used.
On completing the course, you will be able to discuss how this contemporary living unit highlights the way interior and exterior interrelate, the extent to which traditional living functions have been changed, and identify the historical architectural tradition that exerted an underlying influence on this new building. .

- Demonstrate the extent to which this architectural project is an exemplar of contemporary living.
- Analyze how natural lighting has been used to increase energy efficiency.
- Describe how the new building has been made to blend with its hilly landscape and the way it takes its historic setting into account.
