Course DescriptionThe course looks at the specific sustainability measures adopted by an industrial architecture requalification project. As well as an explanatory text, you will be provided with pictures, sketches, technical and construction-detail drawings and details of the plant and equipment used. The material made available will provide you with a clear understanding of the project and the technologies and materials used, with particular focus on energy-saving strategies. On completing the course, you will be able to identify key sustainability issues for contemporary architecture and some of the technologies that may be employed to ensure lower energy consumption.

After reading this article and studying the drawings, you will be able to:
- Assess the energy-saving measures introduced into the Schüco Italia Headquarters and explain how these can be applied to avant-garde architectural projects.
- Define how interior and exterior relate in the Schüco building and the role of the different envelope typologies with regard to solar radiation.
- Apply, on the basis of the construction-detail and plant drawings, the technologies adopted in the Schüco building to other projects with energy-saving objectives.
- Analyze how the materials used to ensure thermal and acoustical occupant comfort are also conducive to overall building sustainability.
