Course DescriptionThe course examines sustainability issues on an urban neighborhood scale. The course material includes a descriptive text, pictures, technical drawings, and construction-detail drawings with climate-control indications.
On completing the course you will have an exhaustive overview of the project in question and how the technologies and materials employed have been put to the service of sustainable strategies. In particular, you will have learned specific details about applying energy-saving technologies on the wider, urban-neighborhood scale.
Learning Objectives – after reading this article and studying the drawings, you will be able to:
- Analyze how the materials used for the structural frames and external sun-shielding help to provide comfort-zone interior environments while still meeting energy-saving goals.
- Assess how natural daylight and sun screens have been exploited to create ideal microclimatic conditions.
- Identify the technological features that enable the Elmpark project to successfully combine high density with environmental sustainability.
- Define the way interiors and exteriors have been made to interrelate and the role played by the different types of outer envelope as a function of solar exposure.
