Course Description
The course looks at energy-efficient strategies employed in two projects by Matthias Sauerbruch and Louisa Hutton, architects whose work is posited on the concept of sustainability. The course material includes a descriptive text, pictures, several technical drawings and climate-control cross-section drawings. As well as providing a thorough insight into each project, the explanatory material allows comparison of the two buildings and the way each has achieved energy-saving benefits.
On completing the course, you will have an exhaustive overview of the specific technologies and materials used to implement the projects’ underlying sustainability philosophy.

Learning Objectives - after reading the article and studying the drawings, you will be able to:
- Analyze how the materials used for both frame and outer sun-shielding contribute to creating comfort-zone climate conditions on the interiors and at the same time obtain energy-saving benefits.
- Assess the esthetic aspect of the energy-efficient features.
- Define how the use of natural daylight combined with sun-screens guarantee comfortable living conditions throughout the complex.
- Identify the innovative technologies adopted to obtain climate control.
