Glass is being used more and more in residential, commercial and industrial building, and this has spurred manufacturers to heights of research and product development so as to ensure protection, safety, versatility, energy efficiency and defence against the noise pollution of most urban areas.
The new San Giuseppe Commercial Area Management building at Conegliano Veneto is an example of high-performing glass products differing according to the exposure and hence varying requirements of weather and noise insulation.
The architects at Studio D-Recta chose Pilkington Eclipse Advantage™ as their basic product. This low emission sun-control glass reduces indoor heat during the hot season and also prevents dispersion of heat in winter. Pilkington Eclipse Advantage™ comes in various natural colours affording low reflection, high light transmittance and control of glare. For this project the glazing used the Blue-Green 8 mm version.
In some parts of the building Pilkington Eclipse Advantage™ was mounted in standard double-glazing units of Pilkington Optiphon™, which has high noise abatement despite the thinness of the panes; the version used in this case was Pilkington Optiphon™ Therm S3 which has a low-emission coating that further enhances the thermal yield.
