Werner Tscholl’s extension of the Termeno cooperative winery aims to create a contemporary landmark that also speaks of the building’s past and its long-standing winemaking tradition. The wine-growing trellis was the point of departure for the sculptural exterior that wraps round the glazed walls of the new building like a huge green metal grille. This is the new entrance to the Termeno winery, a landmark signalling a fine winemaking tradition.
As to distribution and function, the complex is clearly divided between the wine-production area and the visitors’ and shop section. Opening directly out onto the vineyards, the lower floor can be accessed only by personnel and incoming or outgoing goods lorries. The visitors’ entrance is on the upper floor, created from an existing part of the building. The two new wings start from this point. They house administrative and marketing offices, a functions area and small museum, meeting rooms and a new cellar showroom selling directly to the public and sited on the most panoramic side of the building. Great care has been taken with the interior design, materials and lighting solutions, for which Zumtobel was chosen. BEGA luminaires were chosen for outdoors and to light the façades while inside, a series of different systems have been installed in keeping with the different environments and their function.
The entrance is lit by LINARIA seamless batten luminaires while LIGHT FIELDS systems have been installed in the offices. Micro-prism optics make the light really sparkle and ensure glare control.
In the winemaking section, red painted concrete walls together with the SLOT2 and PERLUCE lighting systems create a warm atmosphere.
